    The collection is intended to demonstrate the way in which traditional adult education values derived from philosophies of 'individualism' also imply a 'public' dimension referred to as 'mutuality'. This is shown to be manifest not only in the liberal idea of 'citizenship' but also in concepts of 'autonomy', 'knowledge and truth', 'rationality' and in language and communication.
